Dependable Car Rental in Port Stephens

Yes. As per the terms of the Rental Agreement, you may not use the vehicle for any illegal purposes. All vehicles must only be driven on sealed roads.  

Towing is allowed with vehicles that have a towbar, as long as Nelson Bay Car Rentals has approved the trailered item with registration details. No pushing other objects or carrying more passengers than is legally allowed for the vehicle in question.

Nelson Bay Car Rentals will only issue a vehicle with authorised/plastic copies of 100 points of ID to cover insurance for your journey. 

The standard included excess is $5,000 per claim per hire vehicle, however we have options to reduce the excess premium.

This covers all 3rd party vehicles, property damaged and stolen vehicles as well as the the rental vehicle. In the event of an accident or stolen vehicles, Nelson Bay Car Rentals do NOT cover any peronal effects in the vehicle, you will need private  insurance for any belongings damaged or lost for such an incident.

We offer excellent daily rates for our cars and scooters, with the daily price reducing as you add more days—from a single day to 8 days. 

If you rent a car for more than 8 days, our special flat-rate daily fee applies for each added day.

We offer scooter and car delivery services to locations in and around the Nelson Bay area. Such a service does come with a modest additional fee. We can always organise a vehicle in the Nelson Bay area. 

If you require the vehicle to be dropped off or picked up at a Port Stephens bus depot, Newcastle airport or train station, bookings are essential. 

Yes, you’ll need to provide us with your payment information when you secure your car or scooter booking. 

Our payment options are EFT via bank details (funds must be cleared within 24 hours of accepting the rental vehicle, pending payments will not be accepted), Visa, Mastercard with debt/credit (0.02% surcharge) or AMEX (0.044% surcharge). Cash is also accepted for the rental fee only (the bond must be on the card, no exceptions).  

A hard plastic card is required in the name of the person booking the vehicle and signing the contract; a screenshot from a mobile is not suitable. We must sight the card itself as part of your required points of ID. 

You will be charged a deposit and the full price of the agreed dates within the rental agreement. More detailed information can be found on the hire pages for cars and scooters on this website. You can also email us or simply call Nelson Bay Car Rentals. 

With all our scooter and car rentals, 2 drivers can be named on the contract. If you require 3 or more drivers to be listed, an additional $22 per driver will be charged per rental.

Most tolls work seamlessly in Australia. Our vehicles' number plates are registered to receive tolls a few days later. Once received, we send you the toll notices and $3 plus toll fee (capped at $12 per day) per toll charge.

We take care of paying your toll charges for you, so you won’t have to worry about anything but having a pleasant trip. You always have the option of adding the number plate of your rental vehicle to your own toll pass for the period you're renting the car.

Infringements will incur a $45 admin fee per infringement. This will be deducted from your card and State Revenue will re-issue the infringement to the address on your licence provided.

Yes, there is a booking fee with Nelson Bay Car Rentals. A $50.00 fee will be charged and is fully refundable up to 7 days prior to the hire date.

Any booking cancellations made less than 10 days prior to the hire date will not be refunded. Upon collection of your hire vehicle, the $50 booking fee will be deducted from your booking total.

Our vehicles are smoke-free zones. If smoking has taken place, Nelson Bay Car Rentals has the right to withhold the vehicle bond in full.

Please don't smoke with the windows down, thinking it can't be smelt or use fragrances to cover the smell of cigarettes—it doesn’t work. Every renter deserves to drive a vehicle that smells fresh, without the smell of smoke.

Pets are not permitted in any of our vehicles at any stage.

In the unlikely event that your rental car incurs a tyre puncture, the vehicle is equipped with a manual and all necessary tools. If you get stuck, please contact us if needed.

Included with Nelson Bay Car Rentals hire is 150 free kilometres for each rental day. After this, it is 35c per kilometre or $35 per 100 kilometres thereafter.

We deliver the vehicles with a full tank of fuel—95 or 98 unleaded only. Once the vehicle is returned, we refill the fuel at Nelson Bay or Anna Bay service station. We send you a copy of the fuel receipt and deduct the fuel cost from the refundable bond.

You will only be charged the pump price—no extra delivery fees. If you fill the tank yourself prior to returning, be sure to make it your last stop before returning the vehicle.

Our vehicles are delivered clean. To avoid any bond being held, the vehicles should be returned in the same condition they were given.

A few things to look out for: zero animal hairs, stains, excess sand, sunscreen, body fluids, food, spilled drinks, mud, unpleasant odours, illegal and dangerous items.
